This article will guide you on how to add and edit a Towing vessel (Tug) to your case. There are two steps to adding a Tug:
Adding a Tug
1. Open your case and go to Build → Logistics → +Add
2. You will then have a selection of vessels that you can add. Click on Towing vessel
3. When you select the vessel type you want to add you will be directed to the selection of that vessel in your input library. Just click on the instance you want to add.
4. Complete the necessary information on how the vessel should be used. In this case the number of vessels you will need, shift, homeport, etc.
- Name: The name of the vessel
- Number of units to add: How many vessels you will add
- Port: It is mandatory to add the port. If you have not added a port to your case yet, you will not be able to add the vessel.
- Logistic lead time: Time required to prepare the vessel prior to deployment.
- Lead time begins upon creation of work order.
- Any additional tasks assigned to the towing vessel during the lead time are bundled together and carried out by the logistic in a single charter period.
- Upon completion of the bundled tasks, the towing vessel demobilizes, the charter period ends, and a new lead time is triggered by the next task requiring a towing vessel.
- Allow continuous disconnection (O&M only):
- Enabled: The towing vessel tows an asset instance out, hooks it up, transits to the next asset instance, and tows the second asset instance back to port.
- Disabled: The towing vessel tows an asset instance out, hooks it up, transits back to port, transits out to the site again, disconnects the next asset instance, and tows it back to port.
- Availability: The daily availability of the vessel
- Alter vessels settings: Here you can define if the shift time is constant or if it alters.
- by date and the settings will repeat annually: This option lets you assign the vessel to only be available within the period you have selected. In the example below, the vessel will be available from January 1st to April 5th each year.
- periodically and specify durations by number of days: This option lets you assign the number of the days the vessel will be available, at which point, it will be unavailable in the same number of days. In the example below, the vessel will work for 14 days, then have 14 days off, before it starts it's rotation again for 14 days.

Editing a Tug
1. Go to your Tug and hover your mouse over it and click on it.
2. Add or edit all necessary information. Sections available are:
3. See more detail on each section:
Members
If you click on 'Towing Vessel 1' you will be able to make adjustments to the information you added when inserting the vessel. This is a shift, availability, port, etc.
Processes
Please read more about how to set up the processes tab in this article.
Fuel Consumption
- Fuel Unit: Choose between litre or tonne
- Fuel consumption in transit: The fuel consumption when the vessel is in transit with the equipment
- Fuel consumption while towing: The fuel consumption when the vessel is towing the equipment
- Fuel consumption disconnect/hook up: The fuel consumption when the vessel is disconnect/hook up
Cost
In this section, you can define the cost involved with the vessel.
Step 1: define the currency
Step 2: Add any cost you want to report on. Some examples of the cost you can manage are:
- Day rate: while it is mobilized, so from it leaves the port until it is back again
- Fuel Cost: The cost is based on the fuel unit, so if the unit is set to litre, the fuel cost will be per litre; if the fuel unit is set to tonne, then the fuel cost will be per tonne.
- It is a combination of a lot of different registration that then, in the end, get the total fuel consumption and from that the fuel cost.
- regular transit - registered from distance travelled
- empty transit - when they travel without a load - registered from distance
- loaded transit - when they travel with a load - registered from distance
- disconnect/hookup - when it is doing disconnect and hookup - registered from hours
- It is a combination of a lot of different registration that then, in the end, get the total fuel consumption and from that the fuel cost.
- Mobilization cost: It is calculated every time the vessel does a mobilization
- Port fee: It is calculated every time the vessel moves from the port to another destination
Data Time Series
You can also add a cost time series, so your cost differentiates by year. This is done by clicking on the Open Time Data Series button.
Set your year range starting with 1 and how many years you want to simulate and click Update- the actual year is derived from the operational start year on the assets (if your operational start year is set to 2021-xx-xx, year 1 is 2021, year 2 is 2022 etc.), to which you can add the cost per year.
Capacity (CON only)
You can bundle multiple work orders on the same towing vessel using the Capacity tab.
Set the capacity of the vessel (i.e., how many tasks it can carry) and the minimum capacity. Minimum used capacity controls how much of the capacity on this transport that needs to be filled before it can leave the base. The minimum waiting time set on tasks will override this parameter.
