Now that you have finalised the case you are working on the last step before getting the results are running simulations. This article will show you how to do this. 

Follow the steps below after having added all the information in the Build tab:

1. Go to Case Simulate

2. Depending on if you are using ConDesign or O&M design you will find different fields needed. Below you will see more details on this step:

3. Only once you have run a successful simulation will you be able to select the output file and see the results. Learn more about outputs for ConDesign here, and O&M Design here.

Simulate in O&M Design

When a case is successfully set up and you have filled in all the input, the case can be run:

The first step is to select which weather time series you will use: Disable, Historical, increment start year or Markov. Learn more about the options here.

You can define what real year the simulation starts in. The date and time are set by default to be 01/01, you only need to add a year to decide when the simulation will start.

Once you have selected the weather time series, you will need to decide how many years the simulation will cover and how many runs you want. For large cases, through analysis, Shoreline found that results converged from 30 runs, then 50 runs will be optimal. In case of major replacement cases (towing and heavy lift operations), results were seen to converge when running 500 runs. In addition, you can define the start date of the simulation to begin.

Simulate in ConDesign

When you are running the simulation using Construction Design, you will see the below:

You should define how many runs are needed for the simulation. From a statistical point of view, Shoreline sees that our simulations converge by just using 50 runs. Therefore Shoreline would strongly recommend you to limit the runs to 50 per simulation, this will reduce waiting time and present the outputs with the same reliable results.

Note: Every time you click Run simulation, an extra simulation is run, one without weather, called Net run
