In this article, a case with major component replacement is built step by step to guide you through this particular case.

Please follow the below step by step guide. Prior to start your modelling you need to make sure a few things are set up:

  • Input Library - make sure you have a base/port, a wind turbine, a CTV supporting heavy replacement work, an HLV, and a weather file added in the Input Library. For more information on how to do this please see this article: Input Library
  • Set up a project and a case - once you have all the information stored in your Input Library you can set up a project and cases. For more information go to  Create a Project and Case.

Once this is set you can follow the below steps or click on the title to go directly to the information:

Case info

1. Click on Build and select Case Info. Here you are able to add case comments.

Bases

1. Select Bases

2. Click on + Add instance and select a base from your input library

3. Click on the base

4. Fill in the input data required, and select a weather file. A weather data time series must be added. Save it afterwards. More information can be found in the link Ports and Bases.

Wind Farm

You must add a group of wind turbines to the case in the Assets section.

1. Click on Build and select Assets

2. Click on + Add and select Wind Turbine from your input library.

3. In order to add a group of wind turbines, define the number of wind turbines to add and click Define area. Now, click Mark corners on map in order to select three or more points on the map where the wind turbines should be located. After that, click Populate site and click Next. This is the way to add them manually but you can also import the layout .csv file.

4. Fill in all parameters required for corrective maintenance. For a major component replacement to take place, a Heavy Lift Vessel has to be selected as a unique vessel.

More information about adding and editing of assets are available in Assets overview.

Logistics

Transportations will facilitate the work on major repair tasks. For more information go to HLV and CTV.

For a major component replacement, a Heavy Lift Vessel is mandatory. In addition to this, a CTV is also required to support inspections, preparation and finalisation tasks.

1. Click on Build and select Logistics

2. Click on + Add and select Heavy Lift Vessel from your input library

3. Fill in the required input data as seen below and click Next and Save it

4. Add a CTV with the information as usual. By clicking on Add instances, you can add an additional CTV

5. Configure the second CTV available for major component replacement work by clicking on Dedicated Tasks. This vessel will not do scheduled maintenance or other repair tasks that required transit of technicians, it will only support major component replacement work.

Personnel

A daily group of technicians is not required for this case as the task has already calculated the duration of the activities and the vessels have their own internal crew.

Strategy

The picture below shows the input data that needs to be added. Emergency response limit and minimum working length input must be filled in, as a charter strategy for the HLV (this lead time will be counted for each major task. You can find the description of the features in Strategy

1. Click on Build and select StrategyFill in the required data input as seen below.

Logic from the cause of the failure

Support CTV for heavy repairs: inspection, preparation

HLV: vessel lead time, mobilisation, transit, task lead time, replacement, demobilisation

Support CTV for heavy repairs: finalisation.
